Aimlessly walking through the mall, the small-town girl stumbled upon the food court. She wasn't used to big cities like Ranton, nor the large mall. Sure, she had been to a mall before, but it wasn't very often that her mother would take her to one because she was simply too busy working. Her life had been basically sheltered. Reaching into her jeans pocket, she brought out the rest of the cash she had left from being dumped here by her mother. Pulling the bills out, she counted... she only had $12 left. She was thinking about buying some hair dye, but her stomach was growling and she had a weird craving for french fries and a Pepsi.
Marie looked at the food places, deciding what she wanted. Burger King was the best way to go. Looking at the time on her red flip-phone. 4: 55, it read. She stepped up into the line, not really paying attention to who was ahead of her while she thought about the new school year that was coming. She was going to be back in public school, instead of being homeschooled again.

As she walked through the mall, three bags of stuff in hands, may I mention not her hands, Mel was talking on the phone. Very fast, actually, she was moving fast also. One might wonder, how she did that, if you saw the shoes she was wearing, it had to be impossible. But modeling, help. The stilettos were the exact shade of blue as the accents in her dress. Her dress went just above her knees.
She looked back at her mom's assistant, and gave him an evil look, telling him to move faster. She had been dropped off, with a credit card, any normal parent would think her mother was crazy, but Mel loved it. She could buy whatever she wanted, and it never maxed out. Maybe she was a little spoiled. "I know, I haven't spent that much. OK, maybe 200, but remember last time." The her reply to her mother telling her not to make them temporarily poor.
She walked into the food court, and slowed down. Telling her mom good bye, and saying that she loved her, she closed her pink Razr. She handed the assistant her cell phone, and he put it into her bag. "Um, can you get me something. I'll be over here." She fanned her hand, shoeing him away. She watched him move up to the line, as he dropped her stuff, hitting a girl. She stood up, oh, he was sooooo fired! "MY Louis Vuitton!" Her bag was worth $300, and it should never touch the ground. She started walking towards her assistant.

Marie was jolted out of her thoughts as she was hit by a bag. She quickly turned around to see who was the culprit. A man, who seemed to be having a difficult time carrying a few bags had dropped them and one had hit her. Hearing an angry voice behind him was a girl, who seemed to be about the same age as Marie, walking over. Marie noticed all the seemingly expensive clothes the girl was wearing, not to mention the Razr phone. She must be spoiled. Marie thought. She wished her mom would give her more money than $40 to spend at the mall, but she knew that would never happen because their income.
Marie watched the line move up, but she felt the need to help the man with the bags. She bent down and picked up one of them, then handed it to the guy.
You alright?

Melanie grabbed her purse, and quickly brushed it off. 'Oh mi god, does he know what is on that floor?' She thought. He would so be paying for this, along with his, no ore job, well, that was up to her mom. The worse part was that it was white, she could have took her black one, but it wouldn't have matched her outfit. Now, if it was a Prada, or Dooney & Burke, then she would completely, not have cared as much, but Louis had designed it, just for her.
She looked at the girl, who was helping him. "He doesn't need help, it's his job." She would mention he was fired, that would come up, after he carried everything to the car. She held out the bag, as he stood up. Then she brought it back. She couldn't trust him anymore, she shook her head at him. 'Yeah, thanks.' She heard him say, as she pulled out her phone, a text. She pushed it back in, and rolled her eyes looking at him.
She looked at the girl, definitely, not as rich as she was, not as popular, that would be sure. Why had he decided to get her Burger King, her dietitian would not like that. She wouldn't bring that up, not now. She bit her bottom lip, and looked at the girl. Oo, nice people, she hated them. She smiled, Mel was a great actress, and held out her hand. "I'm Mel." She need all the friends possible, when she wanted to be Prom Queen, next year, she might as well find out who this girl was, she didn't look familiar.

Marie watched as the girl put out her hand to shake hers. She looked at the girl again. Mel was obviously rich, and most rich kids were always the popular ones, only because they had money. She noticed Mel had a snob-ish attitude, like most. She absolutely hated people like that! Mel appeared to be 'nice' but from experience, Marie knew it was all an act.
Maria She said, keeping her arms folded. Maria would play it nice right now, but she wasn't about to make friends with someone like her.
In Jr. High, Marie was never the popular one, simply because she never wanted to be. She was always a loner in school and had very few, but trustworthy friends that she could count on. Marie always thought having many friends would create a problem..and most times, she was right.

She put her hand down, shrugging casually. She didn't seem to want Melanie's friendly offer. She looked over at the assistant, and shooed him to go. She looked back at her, till smiling. She didn't know that Maria knew what she was like. Mel didn't need any friends, she needed future votes. Mel didn't even know if Maria went to her school. But she was smart enough not to be mean to her, just to find out that she did.
She tilted her head to the side slightly, and said. "Are you knew, I don't think I've seen you before?" Mel wasn't acting nice, this was her curiosity, she needed to know this stuff, it was her job. "I go to Ranton High," She added, she had to be new to somewhere, and Ranton High would be that place. Mel didn't want to go to school, but she had to. Her parents made her.
Unlike most popular girls, she didn't have a boyfriend, which at most schools, would be weird, but to her, it was normal. She mainly thought of it as all the boys thought they weren't good enough. Maria didn't seem very friendly at the moment, but Mel would just shake it off. If Maria thought she was the nice girl, she wold be one person closer to beating everyone else.

From their move up here, Maria remembered her mother telling her that is where she would be going this year. She tried to talk Maria out of it, but Maria told her no. She wanted to go back. She wanted to be able to experience High School before she graduated.
Maria watched the assistant leave, then turned back to Mel.
Yes I am new. My mom and I just moved here from Oklahoma a few days ago. She told Mel. I'll be going to Ranton High as well.
What other school could she go to, Ranton High seemed to be the only one in this town..well that she has discovered so far. Maria had only been here for a few days, not even a full week. She wanted to make a few friends, but if they were all like Mel, she was quite doubtful that she would have any and that she would be a loner once more.

Mel forced a smile at the assistant as he looked at her, with a question, but her could tell that it was fake, she tended to fake her smiles, a whole lot. Oklahoma? So, was she a cowgirl? She didn't seem like one. Mel had always been told that the states by Oklahoma, like Kansas, were old, and didn't have electricity. But she didn't believe it. They couldn't be that far behind California and New York.
She crossed her arms. "I've lived in Ranton my whole life." Their was another high school, but in the nearby city. It was the only public high school in the two towns. Ranton High was private. "Oh. What grade are you in?" Mel didn't think that Maria would be any competition to her future plans, but, you never knew
Maria could probably make friends, their were other people like her. This year, there was actually a lot more new students. Most of them were. Mel was pretty much the last one left who was at Ranton last year, and a lot of people came on scholarships. Mel was just rich enough to pay her way through, she was on the the dance team though.

Jackie had spent pretty much the whole day at the mall, looking around for a new outfit before school started. She had let herself wonder round a small, cheep jewelry store at three o'clock. She glanced at the time, she always spent way to much time looking for new necklaces. So she bought the long black one she wanted the most and then decided she should pick up something for lunch.
She walked up to the food court and looked around. She saw Burger King, it wasn't too busy and she was thinking of picking something up and then walking to a park to eat it there. She hated it when places were really busy.
Jackie stopped at the end of the queue and glanced up at the menu. Chips? she thought to herself, Soft serve ice cream.. The whole menu looked so tempting, but she finaly decided to get some large chips and a soft serve ice cream. Risky, seem as how she was going to walk all the way to the park, but it wasn't that hot a day so the desert shouldn't melt.
Jackie weighted for a second. The line moved up slowly, but the two girls in front of her didn't move. She assumed they hadn't seen it move 'cause they were talking.
"Sorry, um.. the lines moving," she said to Marie and Melanie giving them a hug smile as to not seem rude.

Marie always hated being the new kid. Most times, people thought they could take advantage of her..telling her who to be friends with and what not. She hated when people would do that. She could tell who to hang out with and not to hang out with and didn't care if they were losers or whatever. Half the time, she was labeled a loser because she didn't have many friends, but hey, losers are cool!
I'm a sophmore. She told Mel. What grade are you in? Marie asked, honestly wondering.
After asking that, Marie looked at the black-haired girl that came into the line just behind Mel, then looked at the line, which had moved up while they were busy talking. Sorry. Marie said to Jackie, then moved up to keep the line going. It was almost her turn to order. Marie was third in line now.

Mel looked slowly at the line. She wasn't going to actually buy something at Burger King, it really would let her dietitian have a heart attack. She made Mel log everything in, all the time. Mel didn't know why her mother made her have a dietitian, but she just went along with it. Mel was never overweight, but she probably never will be, until she fails and can't afford it anymore, which probably won't ever happen anyways. Burger King never was appetizing to her, anyways.
Mel nodded, and uncrossed her arms. She was too, which meant, Mel probably shouldn't ever be mean to her, but Mel sometimes says stuff, which no one should ever say about people. "I'm a sophomore, too." So, if Mel could maintain being nice to her, than Maria would never get to know the real Mel, but she probably will hear about it. She wondered what Maria did for fun. But, someone started talking for them.
The tone of her voice didn't seem rude, but Melanie always took telling her what to do as being rude. She looked at her, with anything but a friendly look. The smile that she was given, looked completely fake. She looked at her eyes, and rolled her own. "Excuse me?" She asked, crossing her arms again.

Jackie blinked and her smile fell to a shocked straight mouth when Mel staired at her. Mel didin't really look what you could call happy. Hey, I was just making sure that you knew the line was moving, I was try to help... gosh, Jackie thought to herself, but luakily for her she bit her toung and held the word angree words back.
"Sorry..." she said to her stepping back a bit. She hated having to tell people something like that. But fake always seemed to like her looking like Jackie looking like a fool. She glanced around fast food joint for a second trying to think of something to brake the tention.
"Aa... did I hear you guys say something about Ranton High?" she asked playing with her new black necklace shyly, "Cause I'm going there this year. It seems like a fun school. What electives have you two picked?"
Another person walked away with there yummy food, but this time second, thankfully, both of the girls moved forward and Jackie followed slowly behind, trying not to get too close to Mel.
[Sorry it's kind of short, I need to go to school... and sorry if there miss spelt words ect.]

After watching the person in front of her oder, Maria stepped up and ordered a large fry and a large Pepsi. She wasn't fat but she was starving for some fries after walking the mall a few times. She gave the cashier a 5 dollar bill, then recieved her change. Taking her cup, she moved out of the way so that Jackie could order.
Maria understood that Jackie was only trying to tell them that the line was moving up: they were busy talking and wasn't paying attention: but she didn't understand why Mel reacted the way she did though.
She ignored that as she filled her cup with soda. Maria looked at Jackie as her cup was filling. Yes, I will be going there. I guess we'll both be new then. Marie told Jackie. I chose photography and study hall for my electives...what did you pick? She asked her.
Having said that, she pulled her cup away from the soda machine then picked out a lid and a straw then took her fries once they set them out for her. She stuck a few in her mouth, then took a drink once she swallowed.

Mel backed out of the line, when Maria got up to order. She looked over at the table her assistant had chosen. She pursed her lips, and looked back at the girl. 'Sorry' She rolled her eyes and looked at Maria, she didn't seem bothered by her reaction to the girl who had interrupted them, and hopefully she wasn't. Maria seemed to be the type of person who was friends with everyone, like she liked everyone. Mel didn't like everyone, she didn't like a lot of people.
She listened to the girl, she just butted into their conversation. Normally, when Mel snapped at someone like that, they never talked to her again, they usually tried to avoid her. But no, this new girl wanted to make friends. Mel just wanted to say, 'Why does it matter to you?' and wave her off, but no, she wanted more votes. She shouldn't have acted the way she did, but this girl probably wasn't impressed.
She let Maria answer, and question, and kept her arms crossed, like she was trying to keep Jackie out of her world, but apparently, that was impossible. "I've lived here my whole life, and gone to Ranton High." How could Mel remember which electives she picked, that was May, when they signed up in Home Room, too long ago. She could remember yearbook, and photography. "Um, I have Study Hall too, and yearbook. I think I have photography. But I don't remember what else I signed up for." If you just walked into the conversation, you would think Mel had just been a bitch to this girl, as she was doing her Angel act once again.

Jackie had a terrible pain in her tummy, the kind she always seemed to get when she was in a bad conversation. It's going to the dogs, she thought to herself, trying not to let them see that she was thinking it, I really hope where not in the same year.
She scratched her neck and tried to leave the conversation as swiftly as she could, without seeming rude or making Marie feel bad. "Cool, I'm in a few of them. I can't wait to see you there!" She bit her toungh after the little white lie fell out, she didn't often act like this around new people, but then again new people didn't often act like this around her. So fares fares.
She stepped up in the line and ordered a chicken rap. In the stress of her conversation she had forgotten about her chose before she came her and had just got something random. Forgetting also that she didn't like the sauce that they put in there raps.
Now happy that she had closed the conversation and got her lunch she smiled at them both and dashed out of the food joint as fast as she could waving at someone near the doorway pretending it was someone to pick her up. Your so weird Jackie, she sighed to herself now regretting the whole time there and wishing she hadn’t gone. She was sure that Marie would still be friends with her, but Mel. No way.
